Course overview
Not just tools: the way an analyst thinks
The goal is not simply to teach you software. It is to make you an analyst who can take a raw dataset, ask the right question, clean and analyse the data, and present recommendations a business can act on.
Designed for beginners and aspiring data analysts. You will build practical skills in Excel, SQL and Power BI through hands-on projects, and develop the analytical thinking and portfolio that show you can do the work.
How the programme is structured
- Three months of core instruction, with one month dedicated to each tool: Excel, then SQL, then Power BI.
- Two classes per week during instruction weeks, giving eight classes per month.
- Additional weeks for projects, presentation and career preparation. These fall outside the three months of instruction and are included at no extra cost.
- Every module ends with full data analysis classes that work through a complete project from start to finish, followed by a project you complete on your own.
Schedule
Two live classes a week during instruction weeks. Proposed: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM WAT (UTC+1). To be confirmed.
Tools you will use
Microsoft Excel
Spreadsheet analysis, reporting and dashboards.
Microsoft SQL Server
Querying databases, with SQL Server Management Studio.
Microsoft Power BI Desktop
Data modeling, visualisation and business intelligence.

The data analysis framework
Six stages, applied three times
In every module, the final classes follow the same six-stage framework. By the end of the programme you will have applied it once in each tool.
- 1Ask
Understand the business problem and define the question you are answering.
- 2Prepare
Identify, collect and assess the data you need.
- 3Process
Clean the data and make it reliable enough to analyse.
- 4Analyze
Explore the data, find patterns, and answer the question.
- 5Share
Visualise the findings and communicate them clearly.
- 6Act
Deliver conclusions and practical recommendations to stakeholders.
Earning your certificate
Completing the classes is not the same as completing the programme. A certificate of completion is issued only to students who meet both requirements by the end of the class.
- 1Submit all three module projects: the Excel project, the SQL project, and the Power BI project. Each must be a complete piece of work, from the business question through to your recommendations.
- 2Publish a portfolio website that hosts all three projects as documented case studies.
A certificate backed by three finished projects and a live portfolio is evidence that you can do the work. If you fall behind on a project, tell us early so we can help you catch up.
